Inquiry

When I was a boy, in early grammar school, I was going somewhere in my
Grandmother's car late one night. I saw out the window, the entire sky, from
horizon to horizon, suddenly light up with hundreds of Meteors, all going
straight down toward the ground in the same direction; no fireballs, just
thin streaks with very little contrail and not very high speed. This had to
be in the late 1950s. Is there anywhere on the Internet I can search to see
if there is a record of this because it had to have been widespread seen by
many people.
