Hi, Everone! The first week of Peresid activity was largely cloudy or hazy here in Western North Carolina. Friday night, Sept. 10th, a violent wave of thunderstorms crossed our area with heavy rain and frequent lightning and thunder. Saturday morning dawned clear and cool with azure blue Carolina skies. That night my friend Michelle and I drove up on the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Craggy Dome Overlook. The sky was immaculately clear and the seeing was very steady with no apparent scintillation. The moon phase was about what it was in 1971. Despite the moon, it was quiet dark and we could faintly make out 5th magnitude stars overhead, Thingas started slow but soon the Perseids were falling like teardrops. Here is a breakdown of what I saw.
