(meteorobs) 2012 Geminids

It isn't complicated at all ...

The Geminids will be peaking during ~24 hours (= >ZHR 100) with several submaxima peaks around sol 262. First the smaller particles; than the bigger stuff shortly after the main peaks witch will be favourable for the US observers during December 13-14th.

Good observing to all!

I for one am now a little confused concerning the
time of peak activity for the 2012 Geminids.

Although most sites are promoting 0 hours on December 14
as the peak for this year's display, this plot by Jeremie Vaubaillion clearly
shows that the best interaction between Earth and material shed by 3200 Phaethon
occurs about 24-hour later . . . at around 0 hours on December 15.

See: http://www.imcce.fr/langues/en/ephemerides/phenomenes/meteor/DATABASE/Geminids/BIN-tout/Noeuds-Earth2012.jpg

Perhaps Jeremie can explain the discrepancy between his
plot and the other forecasts for peak activity?

We know, for instance, that the brighter Geminids come
after the peak . . . so perhaps what Jeremie's plot is showing are the larger
particles/nuggets that lead to a greater preponderance of brighter meteors . . .
though not necessarily higher ZHRs?

This is just a guess on my part . . .
