(meteorobs) Perseids in Maui

The closest good darkness to LA is the Needles Freeway East, halfway between
Barstow and Needles, about a 2.5 hour drive from Hollywood out I-15 to I-40.
The views are spectacular from there, 2 to 3 thousand foot altitude. There
is little airglow from nearby cities in the East and South. The only place
better would be North on 395 approaching Olancha, a 3 hour drive from LA,
very good darkness and high altitude from the highway. There is a
Governement Installation with lights North of Ridgecrest, go another 25
miles to the Haiwee Reservoir for zero airglow facing East.

Sorry but all I know about Maui is that the brewing co makes superb beers -
the IPA is amazing!
I will be in LA around November 17th for the Leonids - will it be a good
show this year and Could you please recommend a good viewing spot?

Hi there,
Geez, it's been maybe 5yrs since I've posted on meteorobs. Not much
observing of late... Maybe because I'm not single anymore. However, I and
the family will be in Maui the week off the Perseids this year. I've been
there before... Other than driving up to Haleakala, does anyone know where a
good viewing area may be on the west or north side of the island?
