(meteorobs) successfully Compiled the existing "METEOR" Code

FWIW, programs developed in Visual Studio will run fine under XP. As 
long as you set up your compiler options to use a version of .NET that 
is available for XP the same EXE will run on both XP and later versions 
of Windows. Certainly, you can use VB6, but since it doesn't run on Win7 
anything you create will become increasingly difficult to maintain in 
the future. I'd consider biting the bullet and migrating the software 
development to Visual Studio if you foresee using this tool for some 
time yet.

I have one or two programs that I'm still maintaining in VB6, but most I 
have moved to Visual Studio 2010, and all still run under XP.
