Sure, it's an option. Personally, I try to avoid Java, so that's not an 
an option I'd normally use unless there was some compelling 
cross-platform requirement... which isn't generally the case for the 
tools I develop.

I wasn't really suggesting what language and development environment to 
use, only pointing out that using VB6 introduces fairly serious 
maintenance issues, and that if the interest is developing in a Windows 
environment, there's no reason not to use Visual Studio.
