Subject: (meteorobs) Perseids photos from eastern Ontario (and KCG
fireballtrain in motion)

Hello all,

Here's my photo results for this year's Perseids.

Night of August 10/11 2013:

Composite images of 15 second exposures taken with Canon 5D on tripod at
ISO1600 and a 50mm f/1.4 lens set at f/2.0. Images then combined together
in Photoshop. I've discovered that the first generation Canon 5D is capable
of producing remarkably good images with very low high ISO noise. A car
arriving illuminated the foreground of the first image. You can see how the
meteors take on a gradually steeper angle against the horizon as the night
progresses and the radiant climbs higher:

Composite images of 15 second exposures taken with Canon 7D on tripod at
ISO1600 and a 50mm f/1.4 lens set at f/2.0. A car leaving illuminated the
foreground of the second image:

Night of August 11/12 2013:

Composite image of 30 second exposures. Canon 5D at ISO1250 and a 50mm
f/1.4 lens set at f/2.2. The camera was set for continuous exposures, and
tracked the Ursa Major region on my Vixen GPDX mount between 12:30am and
3:00am. As many as 24 Perseids were captured in just 2.5 hours. Some nice
bright meteors here. A low lying cloud in the north had me thinking that it
would wreck my photos but I think it worked out very well:

The following composite of 90 second exposures. Canon 5D at ISO800 and a
50mm f/1.4 lens set at f/2.8. Camera was tracking Cygnus on my Vixen GPDX
mount between 3:00am and 4:30am. During that time, three Perseids were
captured including a colorful "near-fireball" near Deneb!

Composite of 2 minute exposures. Canon 7D at ISO1600 and a 17-55mm f/2.8
lens set at 17mm. This camera was set for continuous exposures, and was
tracking on my Vixen GPDX mount between 12:30am and 4:30am (with the
exception of the horizon portion below which was an un-tracked 15 sec
exposure). This is a combination of 26 exposures with meteors:

Here's the bright Kappa Cygnid fireball and its persistent train! I made an
animated GIF composed of several images taken by the canon 5D and 50mm lens.
The fireball was only partly captured on the right side, but the train
drifted right back into the camera's field :) The view covers about 25
degrees of sky (from left to right) and the animation represents a 30
minutes span in time! Be sure to allow the GIF to load. It'll start to
play automatically and then loop:

Clear skies,
