Greetings, Everyone!

After several mornings of deplorable skies a cold front came in, just in time for the maximum of the Geminid meteors!

This was the second best Geminid display I have ever seen. The best was in 1974. It was also a Friday the 13th and coincided with a new moon and a partial solar eclipse. It was also the night I witnessed the brightest fireball of my life: a -10 Geminid that lit up the landscape!

Observer: Rick Hill
Location: Craggy Gardens Parking Lot/Blue Ridge Parkway (approx. 15 miles NE of Asheville, NC)
Elevation: approx. 6000'
Temp: 0 C (but no wind; felt good!)
Sky Conditions: Extremely clear, steady; no scintillation L.M.=+6.0

Be aware that I don't see meteors beyond mag. +4 very well, which is why my rates are often lower than that of other observers. Rick Hill
