"As seen from the viewpoint of approaching
2012 DA14 fragments, 55 N is the "backside" of the Earth.'

That's what I meant by "timing." Thanks Marco, I knew you'd set me straight!

All these reports of damage to multiple buildings in several cities has me
wondering, was this a Tunguska-style airburst-> shockwave event as opposed
to a meteorite strike?

I too cringe every time I hear "meteor shower". Will do my best to take the
"dis" out of "information" in my small corner of the world today. Was
already planning to talk about asteroids today what with 2012 DA14!

orbit for the Russian meteor.

In this case, no trajectory for the Russian bolide was needed to come to
that conclusion.

With a geocentric radiant at declination -81 degrees for the 2012 DA14
orbit, it is impossible for fragments from an associated "stream" to impact
at a latitude as high as 55 North. As seen from the viewpoint of approaching
2012 DA14 fragments, 55 N is the "backside" of the Earth.
