How certain are you that you are tuned correctly?  Ie., how accurate 
is the R-10?

You might want to offset by 2-3KHz up and down instead of 1KHz just 
in case the receiver is a bit off.

Around here I can use 55.239 and 55.259.  55.249 is swamped by cable 
leakage from analog Ch 2 cable signals.

Does your noise floor increase when you connect the antenna?  Can you 
hear cable leakage on 55.249?
