We had cloudy and rainy conditions most of the days and nights at
at our cabin, but during sucker holes on the evening of the 21st
and morning of the 22nd, good activity was seen from the Kappa Cyg
radiant. While casually enjoying the naked-eye Milky Way before
midnight, drinking a cup of coffee in a lounge chair, I notice two
KCG in about 20 minutes or so. So, despite the less than ideal
conditions I decided to try to get some useful meteor data between
the clouds. It stayed cloudy for three days after that, until it
finally cleared up nicely on the 25th, but by then the Kappa Cygnid
rates were down significantly. The five Kappa Cygnids recorded on
August 22nd were fairly bright, with an average brightness of 0.4
magnitude. No KCG fireballs were seen. The best meteor seen was a
-1 yellow-orange SPO with a 5 second train from the Northern Apex
source at 5 UT seen on the 26th. Some late Perseids were seen on all
three mornings.
