(meteorobs) Geminids from South Carolina

Arrived at Givhan’s Ferry State Park near Charleston, South Carolina 
with crystal clear skies full of the winter’s bright stars. Jenion, one 
of my astronomy club members, had arrived before me and was already 
recording Geminids with his digital camera. He stayed an additional 30 
minutes or so at which time the cold drove him to pack up his gear and 
head home.

I began observing at 2250 local time and ended near midnight as the moon 
became present. In 1.18 hours of observing I saw 44 Geminids, the 
brightest being -5.0. All told, I recorded 5 negative magnitude 
Geminids. But the highlight came at 2300 hours when I witnessed two 
simultaneous 3.0 magnitude Geminids traveling away from the radiant 90 
degrees from each other.

It seemed to be a nice return based on the early evening activity. 
Throughout my watch I could see flashes of bright meteors scattered 
across the sky just outside my observing “window”. All in all, a nice 
session.
