(meteorobs) Curved traces

Joe,
Your response evokes a memory I have of that very same shower in 1969 (from Cincinnati, Ohio), a memory that I wrote about in my book: I saw several bright, long Leonid meteors that appeared to spin as they dived for the horizon. They didn't have curved paths, but they did have odd appearances.

Subject: Re: (meteorobs) Curved traces

The only time I ever saw a meteor on a curved path was during the Leonid outburst in 1969.
I saw a "radial" meteor . . . that is, coming almost directly out of the radiant. But instead of appearing as point of light, it described a very small semicircle; a curve perhaps measuring no more than a half degree across.

This Leonid appeared to curve in a clockwise direction, was about -1
magnitude and appeared a very distinct aquamarine in color. It ended as what might be described as a vaporous "puff" that lasted about five seconds.

I still have a vivid memory of it, even after 45 years.

Hi, group!

I just would like to know, whether do really exist meteors with curved traces ?

I'm very interested about this question because a few days ago - 21 April - I really saw such meteor with very curved trace: it has changed trace on approximately 130 degrees ! - it trajectory almost reversed. It was very like on a tennis ball, which jumped aside from wall. It's color was blue and probably it belongs to Lyrids shower.

Earlier, I already heard a few similar reports about such traces from several absolutely different observers - on my opinion, it didn't on a mistakes or optical illusion...

Clear skies!
