Hi again meteor fans.
Just as I had feared, my PER session this morning from RoofTop One in
St. Augustine was extremely cloud-challenged to say the least. We lost
that "blocking high" pressure dome over us yesterday and the clouds
immediately filled the gap. It was pretty much socked in all night for us
right up until 4:00 a.m. local time when the clouds finally began to
dissipate.
I signed on right at 0400 local and immediately found myself in the
middle of a nice spurt of PERs! I thought: Oh boy, here we go! and I
decided to switch to fifteen minute counts in anticipation of a great
show. But then the spurt quickly disappeared and the PERs went right back
to their sluggish ways...:o(.
I managed to stay mostly cloud free for 45 minutes when they began to
come roll back in and shut down any more serious data taking type
observations. I hung in there for another half hour peering casually
through the "sucker holes" and did see a few more PERs and others, but that
was about it.
I've yet to crunch the data I got, but my visual impression was that
the PERs were maybe in the 30/hour range this morning, but it was hard to
tell for sure. All the "usual suspect" other radiants were noticed as
well. I even caught a very late alpha Capricornid, along with another
kappa Cygnid, two beautiful SDAs and a couple of nice ERIs. Even the
sporadics kicked in nicely this morning with 2 or 3 real nice meteors. The
PERs had some competition!

More later when I run the numbers...

Happy hunting, Paul J in St. Augustine
