Subject: (meteorobs) Perseids photos on August 12/13 2015

Here’s the images that I took during the Perseids peak night at Balsam
Provincial Park:

1) Composite image of 110 Perseids captured, using a Canon 5D at ISO1600, 20
seconds exposures and a Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens (set at f/2.2). The camera was
aimed towards the north and tracked this part of the sky all night. The
brightest is a -4 Perseid. This meteor looks unusual because the camera
shutter opened halfway through the meteor’s motion (capturing both the
bright luminous phase as well as the glowing blue-green train that persisted
for several seconds after it vanished). There is also a very faint greenish
aurora above the trees mixed with thin clouds in the distance.

2) Composite image of 99 Perseids captured, using a Canon 6D at ISO1600, 30
seconds exposures and a Sigma Art-Series 35mm f/1.4 lens (set at f/2.2). A
single 2.5 minutes exposure at ISO800, f/4 was done for the star field. The
camera was aimed in the east towards the radiant and tracked the same part
of the sky all night. The Great Andromeda Galaxy is visible to the right,
M33 to the lower-right and the Double Cluster left of center. Several near
head-on meteors were captured. Notice also the rather large radiant size
(meteors don’t always line up to a precise point).
