Finally back in the saddle after about two years of being frustrated
by ill timed clouds.

Forecasts for the peak evening were grim for all of New England
(USA), so I opted to take advantage of the last forecasted clear day
before the Perseid peak.

This enjoyable adventure atop Dickey Mountain in NH was almost also
frustrated. Driving north, my friends and I were watching the high
cirrus cloud shield advancing towards our intended observing location
much sooner than the forecast lead us to expect. Nonetheless we
persevered. Traffic was bad, so we arrived at the trail head about an
hour later than targeted. We hiked two miles up the trail, arriving
at the summit of Dickey as it was beginning to get quite dark. There
were lots of clouds. We set up, ate, and settled in hoping the clouds
would disappear. We contented ourselves with watching for the
satellite passes and Iridium flashes predicted (extremely accurately)
by Heavens Above.

The clouds cleared around midnight and I went on the clock for two
solid hours of very enjoyable logging. Temperatures were mild and
winds were light. Rates were good, and there were a considerable
number of really bright ones including a SPO which very briefly lit
up the ground during a brief bright flash. Many one to three seccond
trains were seen.

I found it fairly easy to separate the ANT from the other showers in
that area of the sky based mainly on velocity. I did not feel
competent to assign the members of the other showers in that area of
the sky, so I grouped them in with the true SPO.

We awoke around dawn to see serious clouds coming in fast. We packed
quickly and managed to begin our hike out just as the rain began. We
had to descend many steep, slippery, lichen covered granite slabs.
Many of them were so slick from the wet lichens that we were forced
to bushwack around them. We returned to our car having enjoyed
dramatic descent since we all managed to avoid injury (or worse).
