Object(s): NGC 6774
Category: Open cluster.
Class:
Constellation: Sgr
Data: mag - size 25'
Position: RA 19:16 DEC -16:16
Description:
In Sagittarius, at ~ 2° N of 44 Sgr. This cluster seems to represent a higher
star concentration in the luminous band of the Milky Way. Very beautiful object,
having impressive dimensions. It presents a rectangular shape and 9 stars can be
observed individually. These stars are gathered by triplets of which one is in
north, a second more in the south and the third occupies the central point. A
basic nebulosity is quite present and constitutes weak not-resolved stars. The
triplets North and South contain the brighter stars of the cluster. One of stars
of the Northern triplet is, in fact, a double starwhose components are of the
same brightness (the easthern one is HD 180511). This double bloom is not listed
in the WDS, probably too large in seperation for the magnitude of the components.
