Moon presence: None - moon not in sky
Instrument: 4.5" f/4.0 Newtonian reflector
Magnification: 30x, 75x
Filter(s): None
Object(s): M 33
Category: External galaxy.
Class:
Constellation: Tri
Data: mag 5.7 size ~50' X 30'
Position: RA 01:33.5 DEC +30:39.5
Description:
A large, very faint, slightly oval halo which is elongated nearly N-S..
It gradually fades into the background making the position of the edges
very difficult to determine. Averted vision shows it to be of uneven
brightness with alternating brighter and darker areas across the face of
the galaxy resulting in a slightly mottled appearance without, however,
showing any indication of spiral structure. A round nebulous condensation
is seen just to the NE of the core at the approx. position of the HII
nebulous knot NGC604. The halo gradually brightens to a large, fairly
bright, diffuse oval core which appears elongated NE-SW. Best observed
at 30x, the halo began to fade into the background at 75x.
