Category: Planetary nebula.
Class:
Constellation: Sgr
Data: mag <14 size 32"
Position: RA 19:17 DEC -18:
Description:
This planetary was discovered very recently in 1980 and is a definite challenge
for a scope like mine (15")! At 131x with the OIII filter I could only catch
rare glimpses of the nebula and for several minutes I was not even sure if I
had really seen it. To confirm my observation, I increased the magnification to
342x plus OIII filter. Now the faint nebula was visible through averted vision.
It does not show any detail such as a brighter center. Appears smaller than the
catalogue-given 32" diameter. Very difficult object.
