Hi George,

I can't answer your question but there is paper that you may be interested
in called: RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN COMETS, LARGE METEORS, AND METEORITES by
G.W Weatherill and D.O. ReVelle in a book called COMETS edited by Laurel L.
Wilkening published by The Un. of Arizona Press. At the end of the paper
there is also an extensive bibliography.

The paper goes into aspects such as cometary fireballs, meteoroid
compositions, compressive strength, atmospheric penetration, fragmentation,
etc. It looks like there are many many variables.

Interesting question.
