I remember once about 2 years ago, before I knew there was a specialized meteor observing group, I heard a bolide. I came in about 20 * above horizon (Staten Island, NY) but even with it. It was perfectly level w/ the horizon. And as it broke up, I don't remember how many pieces, but there was this odd sound like someone crinkling up some plastic celophane (I cant spell). The sound lasted until the bolide vanished - about 3 seconds.
