Meteors and the Milky Way

After further thought it seems that it would nearly be impossible to
see faint meteors as dark streaks against the brighter Milky Way
background. I am not saying it is impossible, but it certainly sounds
farfetched that such a tiny object speeding as fast as it does could
be detected. Has anyone seen a satellite fainter than the Milky Way
as a dark object moving across it? This also seems unlikely but more
probable than a meteor due to the slower movement.
