(meteorobs) June Lyrids
Be sure to watch for the June Lyrids, which luckly will happen on a week-end
and during a New Moon this year. This is a shower that is not on the IMO
calendar, but does exist. However, it seems to vary from year to year. When I
watched it about 4 or 5 years ago, most of them were faint, with an average
brightness of about 3.5 magnitude. So, a dark sky (fainter than 6.0) may be a
must for success in seeing this shower often, or it may be periodic. These
meteors are swift, and the radiant is located just southwest of Vega.
