June Arietids

Lew,

I neglected to answer your question concerning the exact time of
maximum for the Arietids. When Gary mentioned that the time of maximum
is 7 hours UT on June 7, this is the time when the Earth crosses the
exact center (node) of the orbit of the meteor stream. Naturally more
meteors should be seen at this time but it depends on the width and
concentration of particles in orbit. The best bet for anyone to see any
activity from the shower would be be to observe during the last dark
hour of the morning on June 7th. The stream is wide enough (as are most
others) to provide some activity for nearly a month. Your best bet is
definitely the morning of the 7th or as close a date as possible.
