George, I couldn't agree more! It is very important to record times
of appearance, for exactly the reasons you state. This was always one
of the shortcomings of the "recognised" Halley Watch formula for
recording Orionids - a lot of useful data was simply being discarded
through a sloppy/lazy observing protocol. It makes sense to record
the time, whatever astronomical object or phenomenon you're
observing!
   BAA forms, of course, stipulate that each meteor's time, type and
magnitude (and persistent train, if any) be recorded!
