(meteorobs) Train Durations

Neil,

You mentioned something that I've been coming to the conclusion of from my
observations...that is train duration being different at your higher
latitudes. I've noticed frequently from the European observers (usually of
higher latitudes...near 50 deg N) that they seemed to frequently have long
duration persistent trains reported. I seldom see very long durations
trains. Most of them are on the order of 1-4 seconds with a few exceptional
10 to 30 seconds out of the year. I like your proposed reasoning with the sun
keeping the atmospheric molecules at a peak excitement because of longer
daylight at the higher latitudes in the Summer. that when a meteor ionizes
it, it takes longer to "undo" it. Any indication of a train duration dip
during the winter months?
