Wayne,
75 minutes for Kevin to get to the observatory is a long ways alright...I've
driven around all night a few times...with Bob in search of a clear spot
during a major shower...a very major pain and a let down a few times.
Normally, though it takes me about 35 minutes to reach my observatory. I
think it takes Bob about 45 minutes to reach the observatory once his foot
hits the gas pedal. Now 75 seconds is envious alright. I usually get at the
observatory about 1.5 to 2 hours prior to sunset to set up...afterwards I go
to sleep there until my designated time to observe. I have to admit that on
some nights it's tempting to just roll over and "sleep out under the stars".
But after that initial surge(putting my shoes on), I'm ready to go. By the
time I climb down to my camera mount to make polar alignments, I'm quite
clear headed. It's those nights that I have to attend some kind of family
function in the evening and then beat feat up there without my pre-observing
nap that really takes it's toll on me. I highly advise at least a 2 hour nap
immediately prior to observing...If you don't, around 2 or 3 am you will
become a believer.
