Andrew,

Thank you for posting your report. What you saw was probably a normal
display of meteoric activity for late July. Eight meteors, even ten to
fifteen an hour are not uncommon for this time of year. From your
description it is possible that you saw some early activity from the
Perseid meteor shower, which is fairly close to the Pleiades. Usually
the Perseid rate is only 1 or 2 per hour this time of year. You may
have seen a combination of Perseids and sporadic (random) meteors.

Keep your eyes on the sky and let us know what you see.
