Thanks, Marji. Having a hardware expert's perspective on this is surely a help. 
And in discussing this, we should keep in mind: having folks in the meteor 
community consider these operational impediments to long-term night-time use 
actually makes it MORE LIKELY that they will get addressed at some point, by 
either manufacturers (not likely), or more likely by astro-oriented VARs.

Coincidentally, are there any in-the-field CCDers or computerized telescope 
enthusiasts out there who could tell stories about PC problems?
