Hi everybody!
Great news for all of you.
As you already know several observing groups of the Dutch Meteor Society
(DMS) did observe the Perseid outburst on August 11/12 near 01 UT.
One group (Hans Betlem c.s.) stayed near Hannover and experienced a clear
spell just after the passage of front of the monster depression.
This is the same front which prevented the DMS Delphinus-team of watching
the outburst. They visited the area of the Kurfurstendamm/Gedachtniskirche
in Berlin around midnight after a desparate and unsuccesfull crashaction to
the German/Polish border for clear skies.
Another DMS observer (Jaap van 't Leven) stayed in Bosschenhoofd (Holland)
and was very lucky to have claer skies all night. Later Jaap proved to be
just in the center (the so-called "eye") of the much talked (...) monster
depression. Jos Nijland in the North-western part of the Netherlands also
experienced longer clear spells.
It now did turn out Jaap photographed one of many fireballs during the
outburst. This very same fireball was observed multistation by the team
located about 400 kilometers to the east near Hannover. So imagine you
observe a fireball through the center of the depression and your collegaes
witnisses this fireball through a clear spell near the frontal zone!
Could something be more surprising??
So after all: please think about this: weather can be worse then ever but
it's still possible to catch meteors! Never despair, go on hunting after
meteors.
Casper.
