(meteorobs) Sept. 19 Observations

-- [ From: Robert Lunsford * EMC.Ver #2.5.1 ] --

I managed to watch for 5 hours this morning. Activity was pretty slow as
I only counted 35 meteors. At around 3:30am the rates dropped like a
lead weight and remained that way until 5:00am. It would appear that I
fell asleep during that period but that is not the case. I may not have
been running on all cylinders but I certainly was not asleep.

The SPI's were active early in the session. The DAU's continue to be
active producing some nice, bright Perseid-like meteors. My plots
revealed a possible center of activity near RA 011 DEC +15, similar to
radiant #2 George Zay reported in his AT analysis. Four of the meteors
appeared within 15 degrees of the possible radiant. All four of these
meteors were 5 degrees or less in length. Three of them would have been
rated a 2 on the numeric speed scale while the fourth one was a 3. The
remaining two meteors appeared 40 degrees from the possible radiant.
Their lengths were 5 and 10 degrees and both were rated a 3 on the speed
scale. The fact that George plotted a similar radiant and that four
short meteors intersected in a circle less than 5 degrees wide may lend
some credence to the possibility of this minor radiant. Of course this
probably will be another wild goose chase like 99.99% of these reports
usually are. Only time and more observing will tell!

07:30-08:30 UT 0.95 6.65 2 SPI 5 SPO

08:30-09:30 UT 0.92 6.57 2 DAU 8 SPO

09:30-10:30 UT 0.92 6.58 1 DAU 9 SPO

11:30-12:30 UT 0.95 6.33 3 DAU 3 SPO

F was 1.00 for all hours. Teff was reduced due to plotting. I was facing
due south at an altitude of 70 degrees during the entire session.
