Re: (meteorobs) Fireball?

Hi, Adam! Did the meteor you saw seem as bright as the planet Venus (rising now
in the East in the early mornings)? If so, it was DEFINITELY a fireball!
(Comparing meteors to "stationary" objects in the sky is a good way to figure
how bright they are - in this case, Venus is really close to the "official"
cutoff brightness for what people usually call "fireballs".)

Did you notice any glow around the meteor in the sky, or any shadows (even faint
ones) cast by it on the ground? If so, it was definitely a VERY bright fireball:
A very rare event you were privileged to witness! BTW, the fact that you noted
all the information you did about what you saw says that you'd probably be a
natural at meteor watching!

If you see any more bright meteors (and you will eventually, if you start
watching for them), let us know. Also, if you're interested in meteor observing,
I have it on very good authority that Wayne Hally is positively mild-mannered,
as meteor observers go. :) Good luck, and clear skies!
