(meteorobs) GemWatch '97

So far, I have interest from seven parties, including maybe 12 people total, for
the 1997 Keys Geminid Watch. This sounds like a nice quorum...

Let's keep this topic open over the next several months, and keep me posted as
you think about it. Once enough folks decide to go for it, I'll reserve a block
of campsites IMMEDIATELY for next year (Dec can be a BUSY time in Florida, and
there are only a few top-quality campsites at Long Key: shady during the day,
electrical outlets, and close to the observing beach.) I can also ask for
special permission to set up on that beach, just to be sure there's no turtles
coming in to lay eggs or anything like that we might disturb...

As for Mark's question about putting all our East Coast OBSERVING EGGS in one
basket, I can see his point. Perhaps the folks that are further north in
Florida, and even our Awendaw contingent, could have alternate plans to stick
around their areas for the max night, just in case it miraculously clouds up in
the Keys. (Norman's weather is as different from that in the Keys, as it is from
that in the Carolinas: Florida's a BIG state, and the Keys are in a world by
themselves, in both weather patterns and otherwise!)

And if we're REAL unlucky and the whole Southeast region clouds up that night,
but New England and Ohio happen to be clear, I'll eat my clipboard... ;>
