(meteorobs) Anomalies anyone?

I haven't heard anyone write on anomalies or unexplained sightings here on
the list. I wonder if anyone here has seen sky things that they cannot
explain?

During astronomy sessions here in New Mexico, I have seen an odd phenomena
on three different occaisions that I cannot explain. Personally I call
these things "bugs." They are lights that dart and stop, remain stationary,
then dart , then disappear. Once I saw two seemingly "at play."
Against the background stars of Sagittarius, the "bugs" were equal in
magnitude to the main Teapot stars. White in color. I viewed them through
binoculars and handed the binoculars to a friend for confirmation. This
event had about a five minute duration or so. I have considered them to be
bats, or moths, but to tell the truth they don't seem like any terrestrial
sky animal. I also thought I may have seen a space laser experiment in
progress, but that doesn't seem likely either. The darting motion was not
due to my movements as I had time to guage things.

A second incident: One July, while observing delta Aquarid meteors with a
friend, I saw something similar to meteor (but without incandescence) dart
into my starfield and abruptly stop. Then it reversed direction and moved a
bit, then I had my friend visually lock in on it while I groped around for
my binoculars. I couldn't get the binoculars in time but my friend
described the "object" as drifting southward and finally out of sight. This
thing darted meteorically into view from the west, stopped, remained
stationary for some seconds, dashed about for a couple of seconds, then
drifted south. We both observed the thing in darting motion. And we had
been observing and counting meteors about four hours about then and were in
possession of our senses.

These incidents remain in my unexplained file. Any possible ideas would be
appreciated. Tom Ashcraft
