(meteorobs) New Mexico fireballs

Hi guys -

I'm going to be off the list for a bit ...I'm leaving Canada for New Mexico on
Thursday... I'll be down at Star Hill Inn at Sapello until the 20th, then back
in Canada on the 22nd.

I hope you've left me several of those green fireballs.... I am taking "Zay
gear" with me (all the charts and forms that George Zay kindly sent me), and
hope to put that to good use. I always find new forms and instructions a little
intimidating, but the NAMN forms look a lot more user-friendly that the IMO
forms, I think.

The limiting mag methods are new to me, so I will have to practice. I picked up
a little digital clock for my clipboard, and am taking tape recorder as well.
Now, if I can just scrounge a lawn chair down there...

The comments on colour have been interesting. I saw a yellow-gold fireball back
in the 70's that came down, died a bit, then exploded - and I could see 4
individual pieces fall down. It was spectacular. I've seen a couple blue-green
meteors while driving, straight down my windshield. Not tinted :) The best red
one I've seen was an incredibly very long meteor, slow as all get out, dribbling
across the sky. The very bright ones I've seen, -8 to -10, have been white.
It has to be very intense colour for me to see it as colour.

Well, I better go finish packing... I hope your Amtrak down in the States is
kind to my refractor and assorted luggage...

Clear Skies!
