re: (meteorobs) Re: Brrrrrrrrr

Hi All
After reading about -20o temps I guess we have it pretty good here in
southern California. I was out last Saturday night checking out a new
observing site at Piru Creek, near Gorman, which is at about 4,000 feet and
I thought it got, shall we say, "a little on the nippy side". In actual
fact it was probably around 40o, but my hands did get cold holding my
binoculars. I'll wear gloves next time!

Among the objects I did see was the Comet Tabur. I knew it was going to be
near the pointer stars in the Big Dipper and I did find a hazy blob that
looked just like Hale Bopp did a few months back. I checked out my Star
Atlas to see if there was any other object in that area and found that it
was in the exact spot that the Owl Nebula should be, but I knew that is too
feint to be seen in binoculars. I checked back several times later and
could see this object moving away so I knew it was the comet.

Best wishes
Ron Rennie
