Subject: IAUC22: Greetings to Dr. Fred Whipple

Dear friends of meteors,

Few of you may be aware that 1996 November 5th is Fred Whipple's
90th birthday. A small celebration is being planned in Cambridge,
Massachussetts, when his huge contributions to our knowledge of the
small bodies in the solar system (comets, asteroids and meteoroids)
will be noted. Whipple was the prime mover behind the Harvard Radar
Meteor Project in the 1960's, and his many research papers on meteors
are a major foundation of the field.

If you would like to relay a greeting for Fred, please send it as soon
as possible to:

Dr B.G.Marsden,
Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics,
60 Garden Street,
Cambridge, MA 02138,
U.S.A.

Kindest regards,
Duncan Steel
