I am new to the list and as I have just made my first posting (regarding a
meteor related movie) I think I have to make some presentation.

First I apologise for my English as I am a french speaking person ...

I was born (35 years ago) and I live in Noumea, New-Caledonia (22d South,
166d East) (80000 people in the city, 200000 for the whole island so light
pollution is not a big problem as long as you got outside the main city of
Noumea.
I am working as a freelance consultant in networking and the Internet in
New Caledonia and also sometimes in Vanuatu and French Polynesia.
I am an amateur atronomer since ... I was born as my father is one and my
grand-father was one also ...
I am the vice-president of the Association Caledonienne d'Astronomie, the
only astro society in New Caledonia, we held bi-monthly mettings for
members and a few public star parties every three months or so.
We have got a C14, CCDs, a few 200mm scopes ...
Every body here are beginners in meteor observing and I try to relay info
found on the Internet (this is the beginning of that thing here, around 300
net citizens now, the subscription is very expensive - 150$ for 15 hours of
connection - but stay cool, I personnally do not pay for it as I am
consultant for a provider down here) to my astro society.
On the future, I am planning to explain how to make useful meteor reports
to my astro fellows and then forward the reports to the net. I think that
can be useful as the nearest big land (Australia or New Zealand) is 1000
miles away.

After six days of clouds the weather is back to fine (as usual in the
period of the year) but the moon is now very present. I will be on a 7 days
cruise through the islands from dec 2 to 9 and I hope we will have good
opportunities to see stars and meteors.

Clear skies
