(meteorobs) Geminids in Hawaii

Hello, everyone, here's a brief note on what we saw observing Geminids from
Ocean View, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Three members of our group, Meteor
Group Hawaii (affiliated with the AMS), myself, Phyllis Eide, and Mike
Morrow, observed on 12/13. Our observing site is at Mike Morrow's place on
the south slope of Mauna Loa, at about 4500 ft. elevation. Temperature at
observing time: 15 C. Sorry, just had to through that in!

The Geminids seemed plentiful but fainter than usual. There did seem to be
more Geminids with trains than usual. That's just my impression.

My raw totals (6.5 LM):

0730-0830 UTC: 16 Gem, 6 sporadic
0830-0930 UTC: 25 Gem, 9 sporadic
No obs 0930-1030
1030-1130 UTC: 52 Gem, 15 sporadic
1130-1215 UTC: 37 Gem, 13 sporadic

Average Geminid magnitude: 2.35

I think a couple of the sporadics may have been Sigma Hydrids, but I wasn't
sure.

The next night, 14 December UTC, we were clouded out....

Aloha,

Jim Bedient
