(meteorobs) Clyde Tombaugh

-- [ From: Robert Lunsford * EMC.Ver #2.5.1 ] --

Just in case you missed it Clyde Tombaugh, the discoverer of Pluto,
passed away on Friday. I had the opportunity to meet Clyde twice, once
at a Los Angeles area astronomy club and once in Las Cruces, New Mexico
at an ALPO convention. Even nearing 90 years old, I was impressed with
his enthusiasm and very sharp mind. The talk he gave was fascinating and
every ear was tuned in enjoying the stories he offered of his younger
days. I was looking forward to seeing him again this summer.

Myself and many thousands of other admirers have lost a good friend and
ambassador of astronomy. My sympathy goes out to his family and those
friends who knew him much better that I, for their loss must be
magnified beyond anything I can humbly express.
