They will however dump a charge level which is "loosely" repeatable.  It
is characteristic for each CCD.  Something on the order of 4000
electrons is typical.  How many pixels get lit up is soley a function of
geometry, but it is unusual for more than one to get lit up. If the
pixels form an absolutely straight line relative to the CCD geometry,
you can be suspicious, especially if meteor "trails" are arcs due to
distortion.

CCD's are real good Gamma Ray detectors and can be the basis of
identifying the 3D angle of incidence of individual rays.
