Hi Becky

I,m Ron and I live in Lomita, which is a very small city twenty miles south
of Los Angeles. We are surrounded by the urban sprawl of Los Angeles on
three sides and the Palos Verdes penninsula to the west. From my back yard
I can do some observing from the south through the west to the north
(Polaris sits just above the neighbor's trees). My LM is very poor (3 to 4
at the very best) due to the lights of Los Angeles. I have a number of
sites in the mountains and desert that I can use, but they are all of the
order of 2-3 hours drive, except one that I discovered recently.
Paradoxically, for that one I don't drive away from Los Angeles, I go north
through the city and over the mountains which block most of the light
pollution to any number of sites in the Los Padres National Forest where the
LM is around 6.8, or better.

I got into this group when I saw a daylight fireball when driving through
Oklahoma last August and I tried to find out more about it on the Internet,
when I came across the NAMN web page. I joined in with this group and have
enjoyed their wideranging chat ever since. I sometimes drive down to San
Diego and do some observing with George, Bob and Joe. I will be driving
and touring in the UK and Europe this June and July and may get the chance
to meet some of our European friends. If anybody will be visiting the Los
Angeles area they are welcome to look me up and I will show them around.

Best wishes

Ron
