Jan 30 I saw comet Hale/Bopp this morning from La Mesa, Calif. thru my 14X100mm binoculars. Observing between 0510-0520 hrs PST my Limiting Magnitude was near 4.8. The tail appeared to be 1 degree long in my 3.3 degree field. The tail was also pointing towards the North West. I did not notice any coma elongation. My magnitude estimate using zeta Aquilae for reference is a range between 2.6-2.8. George Zay
