Something else about the IRC networks:

You have to be on the same network (in my opinon, EFnet rocks!).
Also, you need to have the right server within that network.  For
instance, I am on a server called, "phoenix.ircdot net"  There are
literally hundreds of ways to connect to IRC and if some people connect
in a different way, they may get into the wrong #meteor.  This gets a
little complicated, but if everyone "syncronizes their watches" it
should work like a charm.  Plus, IRC is a lot more rewarding than e-mail
because it's all real time!
