re: (meteorobs) Discovery asteroid show

All in all I thought it was fairly well done.
The only glaring error, which may have been a result of creative editing
for dramatic effect
was in showing the security camera record of the Bolide over Peterson AFB,
the flash and boom occurred simultaneously.
As we well know, due to the different travel speeds of light and sound,
this could not be the case.
Anyone know what the tape timing was (i.e. how far away it was.)
BTW, great to see the film of the daytime fireball in the rockies. Very
Cool.
And finally, Wednesday is the anniversery of the Sikhote-Alin bolide and
meteorite fall in Siberia.
(PS Anyone notice how many Fireballs are listed in Ron Baalke's this month
in space history for Feb?)

I saw the brief Feb 7 Dateline tv report on asteroid impacts and it was
excellent. This show was a preview of the two hour Discovery channel show
which will air Sunday evening Feb 9.

The Discovery show looks like it will be a very fine scientific report and
has interviews with knowledgable experts like Gene Shoemaker and Duncan
Steele. It will show film footage of great fireballs and have computer
simulations of asteroid swarms. It should dissect impacts in detail. --Tom
