(meteorobs) Xi Bootid Radiant

Just back from the tropical skies of the Winter Star Party in the Florida
Keys I have some meteor observations to report. In summary, in seven hours
Teff I was able to detect a possible radiant near the star Xi Bootis. Also,
the Virginids (Feb. Leonids), and alpha Centaurid meteors were seen, along
with 61 sporadics! Two other possible radiants were seen, one in Scorpius
(8 meteors), and another in Corona Borealis (3 meteors in 4 hrs. Teff) over
four nights. Below are the raw results:

02-06-97 07:23-08:23 UT 0.85 6.2 7 XBO 1 ACN 0 VIR 8 SPO

Two additional Xi Bootid meteors were seen 02-06-97 incidently, which puts
the total seen from this possible radiant at 26 meteors!
Comet Hale-Bopp was a great sight on Saturday morning (02-08). It was 1st
magnitude naked-eye, and had a 4 degree tail in 12x63 binoculars, 2 degrees
with the naked-eye. Faint yellow color was seen in the oval central conden-
sation. Jets and fans were noticed in a 16-inch reflector. It was very nice.
