Re: (meteorobs) More tv reviews

Well, I'm sorry to admit that I watched all of the NBC "Asteroid"
mini-series. The show concentrated on major effects of multiple
meteorite strikes in the Dallas area. Even if the asteroid fragment
swarm was large, the major strikes should have moved off to the west
due to the earth's rotation (about 700 MPH/1100 KPH at Dallas'
latitude). There was only one reference to impacts scattered around
the globe. One of my biggest gripes was the tendency of things to
continue to explode, even 24 hours after the event, especially things
in the oddly shaped (cone) impact crater. The reason given for the
asteroids' collision course was the effects of a comet (OH PLEASE!).
At the end of the show, the comet SUDDENLY appeared as a daylight
object. I can understand how a near miss comet could be a daylight
object, but for it to appear suddenly is unforgivable. These are just
a few of the science errors, the ones that annoyed me most.

On another note, thanks to Bob Lunsford for supplying the
Sun/Moon/Hale-Bopp data I asked for yesterday. When I get my diagram
made I'll share it back with the mailing list.
