I too noticed this in my obs this AM.
Woke up groggy (slept through alarm for 45 minutes!) so I didn't get my dob
fully cooled, but a pronounced difference since Monday AM when I last
cleared clouds. The Jet appears more diffuse to me, but that could just be
cause the scope wasn't cool. Through Binoculars, I thought the tail was
narrower...maybe 60 degrees wide instead of the 80 or so on Mon. The ion
trail was longer, near 4 degrees. I estimated magnitude slightly brighter
than Deneb (which it's getting close to). Say + 1.0 to 1.1.
I forgot to look at limiting magnitude...doh! Astro twilight was
occurring as I got out there.
All these observations were made by someone with no more than 50% of
his brain cells in use at the time.....so take with a grain of salt, or a
beer.
