(meteorobs) AMS historical archives (was Re: ZHR)
Hi, Jim, and thanks for jumping into the conversation: your input on this is certainly apropos. About electronically archiving the raw AMS observations, I can certainly imagine how monumental the task is! But every journey begins with a single step, and there is a large pool of willing hands, both within and outside the AMS, to help. (Not to mix too many metaphors :>)
And I think there are a fair number of people who can recognize the value of all those decades of careful data collection by AMS members! Has the AMS committee thought about perhaps reaching out for help on this project? It seems like those archives are of really to much value to science to let organizational boundaries keep them locked away! Are there any folks in the IMO or ALPO who agree?
