Re: (meteorobs) Tax status of groups

Education can take be one of many approaches. For example the mere
existance of this list is an educational activity as are all the
electronic publications offered by NAMN.

One of my concerns is that we have multiple "meteor" groups, and if all
start fundraising activities, they all could end up with less overall
through confusion etc.

A second issue is that not all of us can afford the expense of a
subscription. And I'm talking $10!! as a guestimate here. One of the
features of meteor observing is that some types of observing are cost
free and still produce meaningful scientific data. I, for one, would
prefer that it stays that way.

OTH, if we choose to put some money in a slush fund by purchasing
T-shirts on a voluntary basis or by some other voluntary method, I have
no objection.

In short, let's just keep it voluntary. That doesn't mean though that
cash contributions can not be tax deductable.

But first let's bell the cat.

Step one. Find someone willing to get us that status!

Volunteers?

Regards,
John
